Obituary for Elizabeth Yancey

Elizabeth Putnam Yancey, 65, of Portage, went to be with Jesus on May 15, 2015 after battling ALS for a year and a half. Betty was born in San Antonio, Texas to Marguerite and Royal Putnam. Betty was married to Robert Yancey for 46 years. He and their daughter Kim Yancey of Grand Rapids, survive her. In her professional life, Betty was a graduate of Bronson School of Nursing. She also received her BS in Health Sciences from from WMU. Betty was an RN who spent most of her life working as a clinical research nurse for Pfizer and contract research organizations. More recently she worked in pharmacovigilance at Perrigo. Faith and love of Jesus was very important to her and she was a member of Valley Family Church. She also had a passion for healthy living and a desire to help others appreciate the benefits of such a life style. Her curiosity about the world and it's people was fulfilled by world travel. The highlight of her travels was a trip to Israel in 2014 with her (VFC )family. A major strength of Betty's was her abiding love of family and friends. Helping people was her passion. Betty is also survived by her siblings: Peggy, Mary Francis, Barbara, her brother Putt, and her step sisters Lynda, Ann, and Lane. Betty's surviving nieces and nephews were also very important members of her family. Betty was preceded in death by her sister Patsy, her mother , Marguerite, her father, Royal, and her step mother, Lyn. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or the ALS Association. Bob and Kim would like to invite family and friends to a celebration of Betty's life at their home in Portage on Saturday, May 23 , 2015 from 5-7 pm.
