Obituary for June Elaine Heasley (Baker)

June Elaine Heasley passed away peacefully the morning of April 28, 2017 just seven weeks short of her 96th birthday. June was born on June 12, 1921 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was the daughter of Theodore Baker and Laura (VanderVelden) Baker. June’s early life was spent in Grand Rapids, Holland and Hickory, North Carolina. After graduating from Holland High School and Hope College, she married Robert L. Heasley, also from Holland. On May 9, 2017, they would have celebrated their 72nd anniversary. June gave birth to two sons: Robert B. Heasley and Charles W. Heasley. June and Bob moved to Kalamazoo in 1949, then to Parchment in 1953 where they resided until moving to The Fountains in 2013. June was an avid bridge player, playing her last bridge game just a few weeks before her death. June is preceded in death by her parents, Laura and Ted Baker, sister and brother-in-law, Maralyn and Wallace Schermer and nephew Richard Schermer. She is survived by her husband Bob, sons Rob (Karen), Charles (Lorraine), grandsons Jon (Julie), Alan (Amie) and Colin Heasley and great-granddaughters, Sydney, Mackay and Ava Heasley. June also leaves niece Lisa (Jim) Torrey and nephew David (Janice) Schermer. Aside from her bridge game and many bridge friends, June especially enjoyed family gatherings around the swimming pool in the summer and dinner table in the off season. “Nonny” as she was known by her family, will be missed for many reasons, but most of all her funny little sayings that we often chuckle about like, “Honestly Bob” or “That is just Rickypoo.”

June has been cremated according to her wishes and burial will take place at a later date in the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan. No service is planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of SW Michigan in June’s name.
