Obituary for Dennis Sidney Burgess

Burgess, Dennis Sidney 11/17/28 – 5/12/17 Parchment Age 88

Dennis Burgess was born in November, 1928 to Clarence E. (deceased 1936) and Sarah (Hunt) Burgess in Flint, Michigan. He grew up in Flint and graduated from Flint Central High School. Dennis was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army Psychological Warfare Unit during the Korean Conflict. He graduated with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Western Michigan University and began his teaching career at Allegan High School. He then completed 29 years of teaching at Parchment High School in speech, debate, drama and directing plays. Mr. Burgess enjoyed acting at the Kalamazoo Civic Theater and was a radio announcer with several radio stations in Kalamazoo and elsewhere in Michigan under the name Sid Dennis. He loved teaching, world travel, reading, jazz, fishing, bridge and collecting antique radios and old sheet music. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather William E. Warren, his wife Barbara (Stewart) and his sister Nancy (Rex) Burbank. His is survived by his sons Christopher (Janet Maddox) and David. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Saturday, May 20 at Redmond Funeral Home, 2300 East G Ave, Parchment, from 1 to 4 p.m.
