Obituary for Lewis James Blaisdell

Blaisdell, Lewis J. "Jim" of Comstock

Jim Blaisdell, age 88, passed away unexpectedly January 21, 2018 at Borgess Hospital. He was born March 6, 1929 to Lynn J. Blaisdell and Lily Tenant and was a lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area.

Jim served his country in the U. S. Army with the 107th Airbourne in Japan as a paratrooper.

He was a 1946 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and attended Olivet College from 1948-1951. Jim played football as a tackle in both high school and college.

Following college, Jim began his career as a salesman working at his father's business, Gates Mfg Company and then as a regional sales manager for U. S. Sanitary Corporation.

Eventually, Jim owned and operated Speed's Coffee Shop in Washington Square and then the J&B Tavern in Delton for many years until becoming a realtor in the Kalamazoo area.

In his life's journey, Jim showed great determination and was resilient when he faced adversities and challenges.

Jim was preceded in death by a brother, David Blaisdell, sister, Barbara Rutledge and a step-daughter, Virginia Tucholski of Pa. Surviving are his beloved wife of 42 years, Barbara J. Blaisdell, son Jerry (Gigi) Blaisdell, daughter, Bonnie (Charlie) Mills of Cal; brother, Donald K.
(Sue) Blaisdell; stepchildren, Linda (Paul) Combs, Donald (Margie) Smith; several grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

No service is planned. A memorial service will take place at a later date at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with military honors.
