Obituary for Harold Lloyd Bowman Jr.

Bowman, Harold Lloyd 7/11/1932 - 3/14/2018 Schoolcraft Bowman, Harold L. 7/11/1932 - 3/14/2018 Schoolcraft, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018. Harold is the son of Harold L. Bowman Sr. and Hazel Bowman who preceded him in death. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 11, 1932. He graduated from Kelloggsville High School in 1950 where he played football and ran track. He completed a two year degree at Grand Rapids Community College. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1954 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He moved to South Bend, Indiana to work at Bendix where he designed the front steering assembly on the C130. Most importantly he met his future wife Jean A. Horak of South Bend who survives him. They were joined in marriage on April 27, 1957 and were happily married for 61 years. In 1959, they moved to Northfield, Ohio where they lived until 1965 while he worked at Pneumo Dynamics Corporation. In 1965 they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan to work at National Water Lift on airplane suspension and the development of the Abrams tank suspension for the US Army, German and South Korean versions. From 1982 until his retirement in 1997 he worked at General Dynamics in Sterling Heights, Michigan. He is survived by two sons, Scott Bowman (Houston, TX) and Randall Bowman (Aurora, CO), and three daughters, Sandra Bowman (Indianapolis, IN), Linda Costantino (Raleigh, NC) and Laura Martin (Howell, MI). He has five grandchildren, Natasha Bowman (Boulder, CO), Jacqueline Bowman (Ann Arbor, MI), Alexander Costantino (Tampa, FL), Nickolas Costantino (Raleigh, NC), and Kyra Bowman (Aurora, CO). Harold and Jean are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo where they volunteered and worked with the First Presbyterian Medical Clinic. They enjoyed the outdoors, especially walking the shores of Lake Michigan, the Kal-Haven Trail, and Kellogg's Forest. He also volunteered with the Michigan Nature Association. They enjoyed travelling in the western US, Canada, Japan and Costa Rica. A memorial service will be held in early June. En lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to the Michigan Nature Association.
