Obituary for Bert Weese

Bert  Weese
Bert Weese, 90, passed away on June 12, 2018 in his home surrounded by family. He was born on 3-2-1928 in Johannesburg, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee of 66 years, mother Phoebe, brothers Walt and Bill and sister Suzie. Bert went to school at Recreation Park. He later joined the military, got his GED and served a 20 year career in the Army. A Korean War combat veteran, he received the Bronze Star and achieved the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He came home after the war to Kalamazoo where he met and married Marylee Loftus.
For the first 10 years of his military career he taught ballroom dancing and managed theaters. He later studied electronics, attended guided missile school on the Nike Hercules, graduated as the top student in his class and went on to become a nuclear weapons instructor.
Bert retired from the military in 1967 and moved the family to Mattawan. He got his contractors license for painting and paper hanging and became self-employed. Bert loved boating on the Great Lakes and served as the Commodore of the Black River Yacht Club. After boating Bert studied and received his pilots license.
He is survived by his children Teri, Matt (Linda), Christine (John), Tony and grandchildren Stephanie and David.
A military service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a future date.
