Obituary for Edith May Bradshaw (Forsyth)

Edith May grew up on the Clark Farm outside Schoolcraft Michigan. She was the eldest of six children (June; Marilyn; Ardis; Ralph and Beverly). She was raised by Helen and Alvin Forsyth and assisted her parents on the farm growing up. She helped with the daily livestock chores before and after school, worked in the family garden and helped direct the horse team in the spring to till the land before planting, she went berrying, canned foods for the winter months, picked potatoes and watched over her younger siblings as well as cooked, cleaned and sewed liked most girls of her day. During her childhood she attended the one room grade school nearby and graduated from Mattawan High School 1939. After moving to Kalamazoo, she met and married Robert A. Bradshaw, March 1st, 1944 She was devoted to him for 59 years. In 1958 she and Bob moved back to Schoolcraft township, the base of his construction enterprise where they lived until 2002. They loved to travel throughout the united states and winter in Florida and Arizona. Bob preceded her in death on March 31st, 2003. As Edith said, “I lost the love of my life.” He helped her develop her strength, her faith in God and raise their two wonderful children from which she drew her strength to continue with her own. Edith May was a wife, mother grandmother and a natural homemaker as well as bookkeeper. Throughout her life she was known for her strength of character and a strong fighter and with a courageous spirit and positive outlook. She was a generous and giving person who put others before herself. Her family was her number one priority and continued to be until shortly before her death. She is survived by her daughter (Esther and Jerry Wiles of Galesburg, MI.) and son (Oliver D. Bradshaw of Richmond, VA.), grandsons Christopher A. Bradshaw of Jackson Heights NY and W. Gregory Bradshaw of Richmond VA., and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed and forever loved by those who knew her. Now, we rejoice in the knowledge that she is at peace in heaven and with the rest of her family that has passed before.
