Obituary

Schroder, Jean McDonald 7/11/1926 - 2/9/2019 Kalamazoo Jean McDonald Schroder (Wielenga) of Kalamazoo Passed away February 9, 2019 peacefully, with her family by her side at Bronson Hospital. Jean was born July 11, 1926 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The eldest daughter of David and Annie Howells. She met her first husband, John Wielenga in London during WWII. They were united in marriage in Kalamazoo on January 3, 1947. Jean's second marriage was to Paul Schroder on August 13, 1983. Jean loved spending time with her family, she was a member of the Peoples Church, Kalamazoo Garden Club, and a volunteer at Borgess Hospital. She and her second husband Paul enjoyed travelling the country in their Airstream Trailer. She enjoyed many visits back to the UK with family. Jean was friendly, outgoing and made new friends easily wherever she went. She had a true concern for the environment. Living in London during WWII, she lost several relatives to the bombings, narrowly escaping herself. She saw aerial dogfighting between British and German planes. Jean was preceded in Death by First Husband, John Wielenga, March 1982, Second Husband, Paul Schroder, October 2000, and Sister Betty Tournman, Surviving are her daughter Dee (Tom) Renauld, sons Bob (Marcia), Ron (Betti), and Scott (Roxy) Wielenga. 6 Grand Children, 8 Great Grand Children. I have very happy memories of the 20 or more years I met with Jean and other friends to walk then stop for coffee usually at McKenzies downtown. I greatly admired her for her kindness, frankness, many talents and enthusiasm for life. Nanette Beaton
