Douglas Scott Thomsen, August 28,1956 to September 3, 2016, passed away at his home in Kalamazoo, after battling cancer. He was born in Winnebago, Minnesota, but has been a resident of the Kalamazoo area since childhood. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Thomsen and Geraldine Jepsen Thomsen of Portage. Doug graduated from Portage Central High School in 1974 and from Western Michigan University in 1978. He was employed at Great Lakes Shipping Co. since 1989 as their bartender.
Doug is survived by his wife, Rebecca Thomsen, stepsons Dr. Blaine Moore (Dr. Andreea Moore and granddaughter Cora) of Kalamazoo, Stephen Moore (Nikolas, grandson) of San Diego, California, Kathy Thomsen White of Royal Oak, Michigan, Dr. Dorothy Thomsen Gielarowski (John) of Kissimmee, Florida, Gregg Thomsen of Portage, one niece, Sara Thomsen and two great nephews, Cameron and Landon of Portage.
Doug was an incredible person, and he was loved by many, and will be missed tremendously! There will be a memorial, celebrating his life on September 18, 2016, at Great Lakes Shipping Co., 4525 W Kl Avenue, Kalamazoo from 5:00PM to 7:00PM.
