Obituary for Linda Kay Harris (Balcom)

Linda Kay Harris was a kind and loving woman who was devoted to her family and her faith. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Larry Preston Harris, from 1956 until his death in 2016. They had five beautiful children together, ten grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She built her life around her love for them, which is evident in the adoration her family has for her.

Linda was an amazing mother and grandmother who was cherished by her family. She was also a beloved sister and aunt. Her home in Schoolcraft was the hub for family gatherings, holidays, and memory making. She traveled regularly to see her children and grandchildren who lived out of town and was known in the Soo as "Grandma Regular". Linda loved to read and was always in the middle of a new novel. She also spent many a night as the Number One Fan at her grandchildren's sporting events, concerts, or plays.

Even though she did seem to live an unassuming life, Linda was an extraordinary friend and she went to many lunches and on many adventures with her close friends LaVonne and Leona, who with Linda, formed the super friendship group "The L's". She was also a wonderful friend for many people in her church, Stockbridge United Methodist Church. She attended church every Sunday and volunteered for many of the church's events.

To have known Linda was to know how powerful love and family can be. She had the big picture of a fulfilling life. She made her relationships with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends her top priority and there is no doubt they felt this love and commitment every day. To say she will be missed is not enough and we will continue to honor her by loving one another, volunteering in our communities, and focusing on the big picture of a fulfilling life with strong and loving relationships.
