EISZNER, MARGARET K. 1/1/1928 - 8/9/2018 Portage, Michigan Margaret K. Eiszner ("Peg"), of Portage, Michigan, died on August 9, 2018, at Rose Arbor Hospice. Margaret was born January 1, 1928 in Maywood, Illinois, to Mahlon Ellsworth Karau and Gladys Irene Huffman Karau. She graduated from Proviso High School in 1944, and in 1969 earned a BA from Indiana University at South Bend. On July 1, 1949 in Maywood, Illinois, she married William H. Eiszner, Jr. of Broadview, Illinois, and became his beloved "Margee" for 52 years. Mr. Eiszner died in 2001. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Robert Pape, her sisters Virginia (Jean) Sedgwick and Joyce Hockel, and her son Robert Eiszner. Survivors include her son John (Cheryl) Eiszner, daughter Lorraine (Bruce) Alden, and three grandchildren, Julia Eiszner, Sara Eiszner and Eric Alden. Margaret was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Kalamazoo, and served on the board of St. Luke's Thrift Shop. An avid reader and patron of public libraries in every city she lived in, Margaret was active in the American Association of University Women, volunteered as librarian for St. Luke's, and served as a reading coach for elementary students. Margaret followed current events, and also enjoyed bridge, Scrabble, crossword puzzles, travel, playing the piano, and spending time with her family and her Golden Retrievers. A mass and memorial celebration will be held Saturday, September 29th at 2pm at St. Luke's. Cremation has taken place with private interment in Elmhurst, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation in Margaret's name to the Franklin D. Schurz Library at Indiana University at South Bend or to the Kalamazoo Humane Society.
