Obituary for William Robert "Bill" Whitehead

WHITEHEAD, Mr. William
Portage

Bill passed away on Friday, August 17, 2012, at Bronson hospital with family by his side. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on October 18, 1934, the son of the late William and Marion (Mason) Whitehead. After high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably during the Korean War. Bill loved the Navy and was always proud to be an American veteran. On September 3, 1955, he married the love of his life Sandra (LeBlanc) Whitehead who survives. After returning to Michigan, Bill continued work as a carpenter with the Carpenters Union Local 525. He was a hard worker and retired in 1988. He loved his family, friends and country, and was always ready and willing to be there when needed. He and Sandra are members of St. Catherine’s Church and had a strong faith in the Lord. When not working or spending time with family, he loved woodworking, being outdoors, and enjoyed hunting, and fishing. He leaves a life and legacy that will be remembered fondly. Bill also leaves to cherish his memory 4 children, Lori (Greg) Cegielski, Steven Whitehad, John (Lori) Whitehead, and David (Amy) Whitehead.; 8 grandchildren, Daisha (John) Perry, Holly (Ryan) Patterson, Heidi and Eric Cegielski, Andrew and Ashley Whitehead, Katelyn and Nathan Whitehead; 4 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and sisters, John Whitehead, Mary DeKam, Judy Norman, Chris Russell, and Kathy Brogan; his aunt and uncle, Melvin (Betty) Dawson; many nieces, nephews, and great friends. He was also preceded in passing by 5 brothers and sisters, David and Harvey Whitehead, Susan Wagner, Janet Ramsdell and Barbara Quigley. A memorial mass to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at St. Catherine’s Church, 1150 West Center, Portage, MI 49024, beginning at 11:00 AM, with Fr.
